The end of an era. Dawlish signal box has finally been demolished over the nights of 2-4 July 2013, following removal of listed status in May this year. The box remained in daily use until 1970 from when it was used to control weekend summer services or engineering work, finally being closed as part of the West of England re-signalling on 27 September 1986. After full closure the BR Property Board, BRB and Network Rail all tried to lease the structure for commercial use but no takers could be found. The box gradually fell into dis-repair and became an eyesore on the station platform.
