Todays excitement on the Dawlish Sea Wall. Former Jarvis liveried Class 56 No. 56301 piloting UKRL No. 56098 form train 5S56 10.45 Laira depot to Brush, Kilmarnock formed of vehicles 6330, 42310, 44022, 42068, 42062, 42221, 42504, 40810, 41089, 6338. Although very dull, looked nice, noise was something else!
In the damp and dull, todays (12/12/15) Rail Operations Group move 5V56 02.10 Kilmarnock - Laira, Great Western stock move formed of vehicles 6338, 41126, 40809, 42268, 42506, 42216, 42344, 42261, 44030 and 6330 powered by Class 56s Nos. 56098 and 56301 approach Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish.
Fitted with Fugro Rail Data automated rail geometry testing equipment - RILA (Rail Infrastructure aLignment Acquisition) optical and laser based systems on the front end, Colas Rail Freight Class 66 No. 66846 emerges from Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish on 10 December 2015 working train 0Q00, the 08.10 Westbury to Westbury via Bristol, Plymouth and Bristol. This mobile equipment first tested in 2013, is now used throughout the country fitted to either a loco or multiple unit travelling at line speed and possibly in normal service. The lightweight equipment can be easily attached or removed from a locos draw gear or multiple unit coupling without the use of mechanical plant.

The 'Noo-Noo' rescue train, Colas Rail Freight Class 66 No. 66846 plus four loaded 'Falcon' wagons head west through Dawlish on 2 December 2015 running as train 6C54 13.10 Westbury to Newton Abbot Hackney Yard. The train went to collect defective Rail-Vac vehicle 709515004-8 (known locally as 'Noo-Noo') which was failed at Newton Abbot a few weeks ago with brake issues. Unusual train for the sea wall.
In the closing light of the day on 1 December 2015, GWR HST No. 43172 Harry Patch passes Dawlish leading train 1C83 the 13.05 Paddington to Plymouth. One of the few times this stunning power car has worked along the sea wall since unveiling. It usually works on the Bristol road.
