This move operated following the delivery of the first four Mk3 HST vehicles with sliding doors delivered overnight from Wabtec Doncaster to Laira.

In conditions best described as 'grim' the NMT passes Dawlish mid-morning on 9 March 2018 forming train 1Z18, the 08.15 Derby RTC to Plymouth, the set should have operated its normal Friday train from Reading to Paignton via Penzance, but due to wheel flats had to visit to the wheel lath yesterday. The train is seen passing the 'Dawlish Gap' led by PC No. 43014 with No. 43013 on the rear.
Great Western Class 57/6 No. 57603 powering the 'Night Riviera' stock approaches Dawlish just before 09.00 on 8 March 2018, working an empty stock move 5A40, the 08.40 Newton Abbot to Reading Traincare depot. This is the loco and stock off the previous nights Penzance to Paddington sleeper, which failed at Newton Abbot.
