First Great Western Class 57/6 No. 57603 pilots failed Direct Rail Services Class 57/3 No. 57310 towards Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish on 27 November 2014 forming train 5Z79, the 14.52 Exeter New Yard to Long Rock via Penzance. The train was formed of the stock off the previous nights down sleeper which failed at Exeter St Thomas with faults on No. 57310.

Following failure of the overnight FGW sleeping car train from Truro to Paddington late on 23 November 2014, when the empty stock from Laira to Truro failed near Liskeard, the train was rescued and taken to Plymouth. During the morning of 24 November the stock powered by Direct Rail Services Class 57/3 No. 57310 formed train 5A40, the 10.55 Plymouth to Paddington, which is seen passing the sea wall repair platform at Rockstone Bridge. At this point the train was running over 40 minutes early.
Said to be the first time the Plymouth liveried Class 43 No. 43163 has operated facing west since it was branded in mid-summer came on Sunday 23 November 2014 when it led train 1C11, the 11.03 Paddington to Paignton, seen departing from the Dawlish stop and heading towards Kennaway Tunnel. The entire HST was operating in reverse formation.

After arrival at Hackney Yard, Newton Abbot on 11 November 2014, Class 70 No. 70808 returned to Exeter Riverside with train 6C29, formed of 15 MHAs and 2 YKAs from the past weekends engineering work in Truro. The train is seen emerging from Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish. Still a tad damp and windy!

As a safety move, Class 220 and 221 stock was stopped from working over the sea wall during the main high tide period to avoid sets being overcome by water, however the good old HSTs kept running, here a FGW set led by No. 43023 heads into the water with the 1C04, 07.30 Paddington to Truro. CJM
