After months of waiting, false starts and people saying it will never happen, the first train of the new Colas Rail Freight cement contract between Aberthaw and Moorswater operated on 30 November 2016. Powered by Colas Rail Freight Class 70 No. 70808, train 6C35, the 02.50 Aberthaw to Moorswater is seen approaching Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish at about 1 min after sunrise. GREAT to see an almost 100% increase in daytime freight on the sea wall!
The Sunday morning yellow and orange entertainment continues on the Dawlish Sea Wall today 27 November 2016, but sadly the weather is not being too kind - its just dull. So, Colas Rail Freight Class 66 No. 66848 emerges from Kennaway Tunnel with train 6C97, the 08.20 Redruth to Westbury via Penzance, formed of the long welded rail set.
Return to Crewe. DRS Class 68 No. 68024 pulls out of Kennaway Tunnel on 25 November 2016 running as 0Z69, 10.53 Laira to Crewe, after arriving in the west with empty stock from Norwich the previous day. Nice to see these on the Wall.
One of the UKs newest (delivered) main line locomotive, No. 68024, owned by Beacon Rail and operated by DRS, is seen passing through Dawlish on 24 November 2016 powering stock move 5Z69, the 10.03 Norwich Crown Point to Laira, formed of off-lease Anglia Mk3 buffet No. 10229 and the former Virgin Mk3 set 12078, 12133, 12011, 12122, 12138, 10212, 11048, 11007, 11018. Pity it was not a daytime move, but at least I got it.
For me, one of the most stunning and impressive trains in the World, is the UK Royal Train, based at Wolverton and used by senior members of the Royal Family. Today 18 November 2016, the train, 'top and tailed' by Royal Claret-liveried Class 67s Nos. 67006 and 67005 convoyed His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh to Plymouth. Running as 1Z50, the train is seen passing Dawlish.
On 18 November 2016. The Network Rail New Measurement Train (NMT) formed 43014, 975984, 977994, 977993, 975814, 977984 and 43062 passes through Dawlish station forming test train 1Q18, the 05.25 Old Oak Common to Paignton via Paddington and Penzance.

This is probably the extremity of what one can do with 12000ISO on a Nikon D810, but its worth the try. 800002 and 800001 pass adjacent to Marine Parade, Dawlish, at 60+mph at 23.50 on 2 November 2016, illuminated by the street lighting, forming train 5X30, the 21.01 Stoke Gifford to Plymouth IEP test run.
Just 4 minutes into November 2016 and with just three hardy Dawlish-based enthusiasts on the platform, the first pairing of 5-car Class 800s Nos. 800001 and 800002 storm through Dawlish with the previous days 5X30, 21.01 Stoke Gifford to Plymouth IEP test run. These two sets will eventually be totally rebuilt from test condition into GWR sets.
