Well, the day has come when we see the final Great Western Railway operated daytime loco-hauled passenger service, with the running of trains 2P70 10.28 St Erth to Plymouth, 2E75 13.35 Plymouth to Exeter St Davids and 2C51 17.50 Exeter St Davids to Penzance on 9 September 2017. With introduction of new trains and cascaded rolling stock these loco-hauled trains are said not to be running next year. The final historic up daytime working through Devon, 2E75, 13.35 Plymouth to Exeter is seen running into Totnes.

As the down empty clay in the early hours of 6 September 2017 did not run through to St Blazey and was recessed at Newport ADJ, an additional 6V99 operated on the morning of 7 September 2017, running as the 08.05 Newport Alexandra Dock Junction to St Blazey it consisted of 21 empty wagons. The train was powered by Class 66 No. 66023 and makes for an unusual westbound clay in daylight hours traversing the Dawlish Sea Wall.
The nice low autumn sun, just after it came over the horizon this morning - 6 September 2017, provided enough illumination to give a slight reflection to Colas Rail Freight Class 70 No. 70807 heading west along the Dawlish Sea Wall powering train 6C35, 02.50 Aberthaw to Moorswater.

Recently CrossCountry have branded set No. 220009 with driving car crests endorsing the promotion of a Safer Railway Across the Country - In Partnership with the Scouts Association. I'd been looking for it for some time and on 4 September 2017 it found its was to the West. Thanks KW for the badge close up. The train is seen departing from Dawlish forming 1V47, the 11.15 Bristol Temple Meads to Paignton.
VERY few out to see the return Torbay Express on 3 September powered by 35028 Clan Line. Not that surprised, with the weather. For the record in near night conditions, the train storms out of Kennaway Tunnel. Lots of happy punters tucking into their dinner.
What should have been Royal Scot No. 46100 but due to paperwork and certification issues, the Royal Duchy, 1Z37, 09.15 Bristol Temple Meads to Par was powered throughout by WCRC Class 57/3 No. 57314 on 3 September 2017. The train is seen passing Dawlish.
Its was a grim day in Dawlish on 3 September 2017, I refuse to go out in the wet to photograph the 'Torbay Express', so its taken from the window. 35028 Clan Line heads west with the Torbay Express, 1Z27, 09.10 Bristol Temple Meads to Kingswear.
As GW wanted all their Class 57/6s at Old Oak Common on 2 September 2017 to attend the open day event, the down sleeper the previous evening was powered by DRS hire-in No. 57310. The Saturday loco-hauled was thus powered by the same loco. The return 2C51, the 17.50 Exeter St Davids to Penzance is seen approaching Kennaway Tunnel.
The wedding of Rob and Claire Thomas (Rob being part of the GW Management Team), was marked on 3 September 2017 by the running of their 'Wedding Bell' train. Formed of GWR Class 150/2 No. 150244, it operates as the 2Z09, 14.15 Tiverton Parkway to Tiverton Parkway via Newton Abbot. Train seen on return journey emerging from Kennaway Tunnel.
