What is known locally as 'The School Train', the 14.24 Exmouth to Paignton is formed of six coaches (2 x Class 143 and 1 x Class 150) forward from Exeter each schoolday, dealing with the larger number of passengers on this and the 16.12 Paignton to Exmouth (as far as Exeter). This is the only train in the West of England which is formed of three 2-car sets. On 19 June 2015, the westbound train is seen departing from Dawlish formed of sets 143603, 143621 and 150246.

After many months of speculation about a new freight flow in the far west, transporting a form of sand generated as a bi-product of the china-clay industry from Burngullow to Bow in east London for commercial use. The new contract has been won by DB-S and after a couple of proving trains should settle down to an almost daily flow (Monday to Friday). The new trains started on 14 June 2015 when a rake of 31 MEA wagons were hauled from Westbury to Burngullow by DB-S red liveried No. 66118. The first loaded trains operated on 15 June, running as 6C20 the 12.53 Burngullow to Exeter Riverside and a 6L12 21.26 Burngullow to Bow via Exeter Riverside to collect the first portion of the train. Due to weight restrictions the entire train can not operate as one consist over the Devon banks and has to operate as two half trains between Burngullow and Exeter. The first portion of the first up train is seen passing Powderham.

The first of the 2015 season Torbay Express trains operated today 14 June 2015. Power was provided by 'Standard' No. 70000 Britannia, which is seen pulling away from a signal check at Dawlish.
