DB-S liveried Class 59/2 No. 59206 John Yeoman emerges from Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish on 9 December 2013 forming the first portion of the Burngullow to Exeter Riverside sand duty, running as train 7Z27, the 11.48 Burngullow to Exeter Riverside. After arrival at Exeter the '59' returned light to Tavistock Junction Yard to operte the second portion to Exeter from where the combined trains operated forward to Westbury. CJM
In low winter sun on 9 December 2012, green-liveried DCR Class 31 No. 31190 emerges from Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish hauling the 'RailVac' track machine as train 6Z42, the 11.17 Par to Eastleigh. The RailVac machine had been operating for several days on the Newquay branch. CJM
On a dull and damp 8 December 2013 morning, DB-S Class 59/2 No. 59204 approaches Dawlish station powering train 6W32, the 08.00 Hemerdon to Westbury via Tavistock Junction formed of empty four-wheel wagons. Class 59/2s are not common on the Dawlish Sea Wall, but later the same day No. 59206 went west with empty sand hoppers bound for Burngullow. CJM
The Northern Bell luxury charter train operated a lunchtime special from Cardiff to Newton Abbot and return on Wednesday 4 December 2013. The train set off top and tailed by Class 47s Nos. 47832 and 47813 but en route at Taunton the leading loco failed and No. 47813 on the rear had to run round and haul the train forward. The return train with Northern Bell liveried No. 47832 dead on the rear heads towards Dawlish station. CJM

On a dull 24 November 2013 morning, Freightliner Heavy Haul No. 66507 approaches Dawlish station with the 08.00 Hemerdon to Westbury via Tavistock Junction empty ballast train following overnight engineering work between Ivybridge and Hemerdon. CJM
On a near perfect low light winter morning, Class 66/9 No. 66956 heads towards Kennaway Tunnel Dawlish on 10 November 2013 with train 6Y27, the 09.50 Heywood Road Junction to Hackney yard formed of a rail collection train CJM

Having only recently returned to the main line with Colas Railfreight, One of the final Doncaster-built Class 56s No. 56113 is seen passing Dawlish on 8 November 2013 powering the 08.20 Westbury to Hackney Yard via Bristol formed of an empty long welded rail set. CJM
EWS Class 66s Nos. 66074 and 66187 top and tail the 08.45 Westbury to St Blazey RHTT service on 29 October 2012, as the train passes below heavy skys on its approach to Kennaway Tunnel, Dawlish. CJM
On 29 October 2013, during a period of stormy weather, FGW Class 143 No. 143620 leads another unit of the same class as the 11.23 Exmouth to Paignton departing from Dawlish station, while a strong rainbow hangs over the Exe Estury and lands at Langstone Rock. CJM
What is reported to have been the final Teigngrace to Chirk Kronospan log train operated on 17 October 2013. The train powered by Colas Railfreight Class 56 No. 56094, running as the 14.53 Teigngrace to Chirk is seen running adjacent to Marine Parade, Dawlish. CJM
The West of England RHTT train for 2013 is again powered by DB-S and is based at St Blazey, operating an outward train 'up' country in the night visiting the Paignton, Exmouth and Crediton lines before going to Frome, Whatley, Westbury and Salisbury before returning west during the middle of the day. On 17 October 2013 the RHTT train 'top and tailed' by Class 66s Nos. 66187 and 66074 passes Dawlish forming train 3J13, the 08.45 Westbury to St Blazey via Salisbury. CJM

The westbound Rail Head Treatment Train on 15 October 2013 is captured passing Dawlish some 95 minutes late double headed by EWS Class 66s Nos. 66074 and 66187, following loco problems earlier in the day. The train was running as the 08.45 Westbury to St Blazey. Although the RHTT had only operated a few times in the 2013 season, the two 66s are rather dirty. CJM

Another of the Mendip pool Class 59s visited the West Country on 14 October 2013, when Hanson No. 59103 worked west from Westbury to Burngullow overnight, returning as train 7Z27, the 11.13 Burngullow ECC to Tavistock Junction and Exeter Riverside. The loaded sand train was 'split' at Tavistock Junction working as two half trains between Tavistock Junction at Exeter Riverside. The first portion is seen approaching Dawlish station. The loco then returned light to Tavistock Junction (running wrong line between Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth) before working the second portion to Exeter from where the combined train worked to Westbury. After a day of dreadful weather, the returning Teigngrace to Chirk logs on 3 October 2013 managed to catch a ray of sun as it emerged from Kennaway Tunnel and towards Dawlish. The train, running as 6Z53, 14.41 Teigngrace to Chirk was running around 18 minutes late and was powered by Colas Rail Freight Class 56 No. 56094. CJM
